Mario Fontanella is one of the hottest talents in the Maltese top flight at the minute, scoring a total of 19 goals in all competitions last season, making him the league’s third top scorer.
2016/17 was a successful season for Fontanella as he was key in Floriana’s FA Trophy winning campaign.
The former Napoli striker spoke exclusively to ElWriteBack about how his side are preparing for the Europa League qualifiers.
The Italian said: “We are getting ready to be a great team in this great competition.
“It is very important because it will give visibility and importance to the club as well as all of the players.”
Fontanella went on to say: “We will find clubs who are used to playing in this competition and it will not be easy for us, but we are working hard and we will be ready.”
Having played for a number of sides in Italy at the start of his career, the 27-year-old spoke about this saying: “I played in Italy at level three and four. The Championship is difficult and you play a good level of football but we say that in Malta the type of football is more physical and less tactical.
“As far as I’m concerned, I found myself doing well in both countries.”
