With the Tulips playing arguably their biggest fixture in the side’s history when they travel to the NetDec Stadium for the Evo Stik First Division South play-off final against Witton Albion this Saturday, Varley will be hoping to be on the winning side after previous heartache.

When speaking to ElWriteBack the midfielder said: “The side have done really well to get to the play-off final. We had a really good start to the season by winning the first 10 games which put us in good position for the upcoming months.

“Keeping a consistent run of form throughout the season has been on top of the players’ list.”

He continued by discussing his team mates saying: “I wouldn’t say the side have exceeded expectations because we have a very talented group of players who have gelled from day one!

“I’m confident and all the rest are feeling the same way which is that we can go all the way and we are more than capable of competing in the league above with the players we have!”

The former Matlock Town star finished by talking about Saturday’s big game: “Winning the play-off final would mean the world to me as I have felt heartache in the play-offs on three occasions before plus the team deserve it after the season we’ve had.

“We’ve had lots of highs and some lows so to go and win the final would be amazing.”
