German midfielder, Bastian Schweinsteiger is set to sign for Major League Soccer side, Chicago Fire according to a number of reports.
The Manchester United player has rarely appeared for José Mourinho’s side this season and a £90,000 a week deal could tempt the World Cup winner to move to America.
Schweinsteiger has a year left on his £140,000 a week contract at Old Trafford but it is said that he will be allowed to move to the MLS for free at the end of the season, saving the League Cup winners £6million.
Earlier today, The Sun reported that Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial and Schweinsteiger had all been sent to train on their own at Carrington, United’s training ground whilst Mourinho focused on players set to feature in the Europa League clash against Russian side, FC Rostov.
Schweinsteiger made his first appearance of the season when he was recalled to the first-team squad before United’s 4-1 EFL Cup win over West Ham last November.
LA Galaxy are also said to be interested in the player but Chicago Fire are favourites to secure his signature.
Chicago beat Real Salt Lake 2-0 on Saturday as they claimed their first win of the season after a 1-1 draw in their opening fixture against Columbus Crew.
With a trip to inform new boys, Atlanta United on this coming Saturday, Veljko Paunović will be hoping to make it two wins on the bounce for Fire.
