Sergio Agüero scored twice against Huddersfield Town as speculation continues to increase over the striker’s whereabouts in the Summer.
The Argentinian spoke to the BBC about being linked to Real Madrid following last night’s FA Cup game: “That will be seen in June. My intention is to stay but it is a long way away. I have three months to give my best and as I always said in June, it will be seen.
“One thing is that the club officially says it (that they want me here) and another thing is to tell me.”
Agüero took his tally for the season to 22 goals last night after scoring twice with his right foot, once from the spot to help City rescue their cup pursuit.
Despite a poor start for the Premier League side who went 1-0 down thanks to former player, Harry Bunn’s early first half shot going straight through Claudio Bravo’s legs, the Citizens fought back to win 5-1.
Since moving to Manchester in 2011, Agüero has been a fans’favourite and even won them the Premier League title in his first ever season in England thanks to his last minute strike against QPR.
A number of clubs have been linked to the 28-year-old, who has scored 113 Premier League goals in 169 appearances, but Real Madrid are the most heavily linked side.
Agüero has previous LA Liga experience having made a name for himself with 2013–14 La Liga champions, Atlético Madrid between 2006 and 2011.
Would a return to Spain be good for the striker?
Agüero has loved his time in the Premier League and has really felt at home, as shown through his impressive goal to game ratio.
The Argentinian now has a higher number of goals in the Premier League than Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba but Agüero managed to match Drogba’s tally having played 102 games less.
It would be fair to say that a move to the 2015/16 Champions League winners would open up an opportunity for the former Club Atlético Independiente player to add even more silverware to his collection having won all English domestic honours apart from the FA Cup with current side, City.
Following a recent Twitter poll, the public have said that they believe Agüero should leave this summer. (Updated as of 16:20 Thursday 2nd March 2017)
Man City fan and professional footballer, Mikey Emery spoke to ElWriteBack about the talented striker saying: “I’d hate to see Agüero go to any other club never mind a European rival.
“He’s had such an impact in City’s recent history and I feel he is still one of the best strikers in the world.
“City want to win European trophies and selling one of our main assets to a club such as Real Madrid would be hard to take.
“If Real are interested in any of your players that tells you all you need to know about a player and City must do whatever they have to keep him at the club!”
