Last weekend newly promoted Hamrun Spartans beat league rivals, Sliema Wanderers 2-1 to claim a vital three points as the side look to secure a respectable league position this season.
Since then Spartans played their other league rivals, Tarxien Rainbows which ended in a disappointing 3-2 loss.
With the league table still remaining close, all is still to play for in the BOV Premier League.
Hamrun Spartans are currently one point behind Sliema and Tarxien with 18 games played.
The side who are currently in eighth position must beat Mosta on Sunday if they want to advance on their league rivals.
Left Back, Luke Grech spoke to ElWriteBack about the side’s recent performances: “After three consecutive defeats in the league it was important to bounce back and to close the gap on Sliema and Tarxien.
“With this important win we’re now one point behind Sliema and Tarxien.
“Although Sliema are a very good side with a mixture of top level foreigners and local experienced players, through collective effort and hard work we can overtake Sliema.”
The 23-year-old went on to speak about Hamrun’s ambitions this season: “Bearing in mind that we got promoted from the first division last year it’s important to avoid relegation as soon as possible and gain a respectful league position.
“Our main concern is first to obtain as many points as possible to remain in the Premier League. This inevitably makes us more cautious not to concede first and then score.
“Having said that we lost our top scorer Haruna Nas Garba and this made a great difference in our scoring potential.
“It’s also vital to have a good run in the FA Trophy.”
