A lot of people ask for things in December when they enter the Christmas period but one footballer, Jurgen Degabriele wishes for just one more thing… in January.
One thing Hibernians’ Degabriele wishes for in the new year is that his side can claim three points against Valletta on Sunday, sending Hibs to the top spot of the Maltese Premier Divison, if results go their way.
Hibernians are currently second in the BOV Premier League, just one point behind league rivals Balzan who are on 34 points. Both sides have won 10 matches this season and are confident of claiming a further three points this weekend.
With Balzan playing 10th place Gzira United, Hibernians fans will be hoping Gzira can do them a favour by holding Balzan to at least a draw.
If Balzan fail to win and Hibs claim a victory against Valletta, this will send The Peacocks into first position as the title race heats up.
All is still to play for at the top of the table as a win for Valletta could also see them move up in the league, to second place knocking Hibs down a position.
Maltese forward, Jurgen Degabriele spoke exclusively to ElWriteBack about the weekend’s fixture against Valletta: “It’s a key game because we are close to each other in the league and it is important to win as well to recover from our last game which was a defeat against Balzan.
“The team plan is always the same in every game, work hard, listen to the coach and play as a team.”
When asked about winning the league, Degabriele said: “It’s very important for us players and the club to win the league. Its always an achievment in your career to win something.”
The forward went on to say: “To secure the top spot you have to win every game. It’s simple to say it but obviously it’s difficult to do it because the league is very balanced.”
