Three Maltese footballers have been accused of accepting brides to fix football matches.
The recent match-fixing case has only added to a list of reasons why people question if Maltese football is corrupt.
One of the three players involved is Ryan Camenzuli, a Maltese international who joined Floriana this summer on loan from Birkirkara FC.
The midfielder has been accused of accepting a bride in order to fix a recent Malta Under-21 game.
Camenzuli’s fellow professionals, Samir Arab of Balzan and his Floriana teammate Emanuel Briffa are also implicated.
Briffa was recently acquitted of match-fixing charges this summer alongside Kyle Cesare.
A former solider, Ronnie Mackay who was recently jailed for 18 months and fined €1,500 due to match-fixing, accused the footballers of their involvement in doing the same.
Mackay was involved with fixing a Maltese Under-21 fixture against Montenegro in March, where Malta lost 1-0.
