Mario Fontanella impressed in pre-season for Floriana and is hoping to carry this form into the BOV Premier League season.
Floriana are currently sat in fourth position in the BOV Premier League after just three games.
Floriana have won two out of their three opening fixtures, scoring five goals in the process. The Green’s suffered their first defeat to Balzan on Saturday, losing 1-0.
The 2010–11 League Runner Up’s next opponent is Tarxien Rainbows who are currently in ninth position with one point to their name. Defeat for The Rainbows could see them drop into bottom place if results go against them.
On the other hand, if Floriana get three points they may find themselves in the top three, depending on how teams above them perform.
Mario Fontanella joined Floriana from Budoni during the 2015 Summer transfer window after spells with a number of Italian sides.
The Floriana forward, who previously played for SSC Napoli spoke to ElWriteBack about Floriana’s season saying, “We have to work hard to achieve important goals. Our target is to reach the Europa League, which we hope to succeed.”
When questioned about his coach and Floriana’s next fixture against Tarxien Rainbow, The Italian said, “He wants maximum concentration because only with hard work and diligence we can achieve our target.
“We only have one plan, win this match.”
Floriana finished the 2015/16 season in fifth place, three points behind Birkirkara.
