FC Edmonton face Alessandro Nesta’s Miami FC in tomorrow afternoon’s NASL fixture.
The Eddies are currently second in the NASL fall standings, three points behind New York Cosmos.
Tomorrow afternoon sees Miami FC travel to FC Edmonton as the NASL Fall season continues.
FC Edmonton will be looking for revenge following a 1-0 defeat to Miami back in May. The fixture is equally important for Miami as a win could see them enter the top four.
The Eddies will be a tough opponent as they are currently nine games unbeaten, three points from the top spot.
Goalkeeper, Matt VanOekel has been at the club since 2015 after joining from Minnesota United FC.
The goalkeeper know for his trademark beard has been awarded NASL Player of the Month following his recent impressive performances.
The talented shot stopper spoke to ElWriteBack about tomorrow afternoon’s fixture saying, “I am confident in the fixture. It is a second chance against Miami, who stole three points from us in the last game. Now they have to travel to Edmonton.”
When questioned about fighting for the top spot, VanOekel said, “We plan on securing the top spot by being consistent and chipping away points from everyone. We are nine games unbeaten and plan on staying that way throughout the fall.
“New York Cosmos are a well coached and well put together team. They are quality in every position and we need to do the tough work by getting three points next week when we travel to arguably the toughest place to play in the league.”
Next week is the battle for the top spot as FC Edmonton travel to New York to face Cosmos at The James M. Shuart Stadium.
FC Edmonton have two games in hand over Cosmos which gives them the advantage as the battle for the top spot heats up.
