Lincoln Red Imps to face Celtic in Champions League fixture

Scottish champions, Celtic will face Lincoln Red Imps after the Gibraltar based side beat Estonian team, Flora Tallin 2-0 last night resulting in a 2-1 aggregate victory. 

Lincoln Red Imps will face Celtic in the next qualifying round of the Champions League.

Joseph Chipolina was the first on the score sheet for Lincoln, netting from the penalty spot after 15 minutes of play.

With 11 minutes left on the clock and the aggregate score at 1-1 Antonio Calderon got the winning goal which saw Lincoln go through to the Champions League second qualifying round.

The semi-professional side will face Celtic who have played Spanish giants, Barcelona in previous Champions League campaigns, including the Scottish side’s famous 2-1 victory in 2012.

The fixture is set to be played on either the 12/13 July and will be Brendan Rodgers’ first Champions League game as Celtic manager.

Red Imps player, Lee Casciaro commented on the result saying, “It was a great result for us last night and now we are really looking forward to the Celtic game next week.

“For club level it is going to be the biggest game ever played in Gibraltar especially as we will be playing them in the Champions League.”

The Gibraltar international went on to say, “We are excited about the journey we have ahead of us, facing Celtic but we still want to make a good account of ourselves.”
Moussa Dembele is hoping to impress for Celtic.
In regards to preparation ahead of the fixture, Casciaro said, “Preparation wise, we will continue to look at some aspects we need to improve and hopefully we will get something from the game ahead.”
