In yesterday’s Europa League first qualifying round draw Maltese club, Birkirkara FC were drawn against Bosnian side, NK Siroki Brijeg.
The first fixture will be held on 30th June at Siroki’s Stadion Pecara with the return leg being played at the Hibernians Stadium on 5th July.
The Maltese side famously beat West Ham 1-0 in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League Second qualifier last season, but were ultimately knocked out on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate finish.
NK Siroki Brijeg finished in third place as the 2015/16 Bosnian League campaign came to an end.
The Bosnian side have never ventured beyond the third qualifying round of the Europa League and reached the second qualifying round in last season’s competition.
Birkirkara’s Kurt Zammit commented on the fixture saying, “The draw is challenging but if we are focused and mentally prepared on the day we are capable of playing against any team.
“Our aim is always to achieve the best possible, whilst always keeping our feet on the ground.”
In response to last season’s fixture against West Ham, Zammit said, “Last season the match against West Ham surely helped us believe more in our capabilities.
“West Ham are a strong side and many people thought that we would of be out from the first leg.”
