Should Lincoln City look abroad for young talent?

With the transfer window closing tomorrow night, I scout some potential foreign talent that Chris Moyses should look to add to his Lincoln City side in the near future.

City legend Keith Alexander signed a number of players from foreign leagues including Gareth McAuley from Coleraine FC and Canadian goalkeeper, Simon Rayner from Port Talbot Town.

I believe that when it comes to Chris Moyses wanting to strengthen his side with young talent he should look abroad. One league which is overlooked is the Maltese Premier League.

I have put together short profiles of the top three youngsters playing their trade in Malta.

The BOV Premier League is full of young talent with international experience and therefore would be a perfect marketplace for Moyses to find the new Adrian Pătulea.

Joseph Mbong is one of the most promising young talents in the BOV Premier League. He first hit the headlines during the 2014 UEFA U17 Championship where he scored against a strong Netherlands side. This allowed the talented striker to be called up to the Maltese U19 side. Mbong was on target for the Under-19 side when he scored the third goal in a 5-0 victory over Katane Soccer Mascalucia.

Mbong’s performances earned him a trial with Championship side, Bolton Wanderers in 2014.

Calleja Cremona has grown to become one of Malta’s best young goalkeepers in the past 12 months. The young star started his career at Pembroke Athlete before joining Floriana on loan in January 2015. After impressing both Floriana’s fans and coaches, Calleja Cremona was rewarded with a permanent deal with the 25 time Premier League winning side at the start of the 2015/16 season.

Injuries have set the goalkeeper back in recent months but Calleja Cremona aims to come back bigger and better.

When speaking exclusively to the young goalkeeper about a possible move to England, Calleja Cremona said, “I would be interested in a move to England.

“I like the English style of football and I am seeking to play professional football in the future.”

Aidan Friggieri may only be 17-years-old but he has already attracted attention from clubs such as Calico Como who currently play in the Italian Serie B.
