Pochettino’s men continued their fine form on Sunday with a 1-1 draw against their North London rivals, Arsenal.
Spurs dominated the game with Harry Kane finding his scoring boots in the 32nd minute. Arsenal struggled to break through the Tottenham back four, but The Gunners equalised in the 77th minute when Mesut Ozil provided a deep cross which allowed Kieran Gibbs to score his first Premier League goal of the season.
Although Harry Kane has started to regain the form he showed last season, Mauricio Pochettino continues to look for ways to improve his youthful Tottenham side. The one position Spurs have been looking to improve over the past three years is their attack force. Son Heung-min has only just come back from injury and is still working on his fitness levels. This leaves Tottenham with Kane and N’Jie as their only fully fit senior strikers.
Two Spanish names have been linked with a move to White Hart Lane in January. The first target is Newcastle’s Ayoze Perez who is also wanted by Manchester United. Ayoze is a former U21 International who signed for Newcastle in 2014 from Spanish side, Tenerife for a fee around £1.4million.
Since joining The Magpies in 2014, Ayoze has scored 10 goals and according to the Daily Star, Daniel Levy is prepared to make a £12 million bid in order to bring the 22-year-old to White Hart Lane.
The second face to be linked with a move to North London is former Man City striker, Alvaro Negredo. The Spanish international has had a poor start for Valencia since joining permanently in 2015. Valencia offered the former Man City man a lifeline with a loan move as he was frozen out of The Citizens squad last season.
Negredo has not been involved in Nuno’s squad since criticising the former Goalkeeper turned manager’s tactics and was offered to a number of Premier League sides as a result. A move to Tottenham would be perfect for all parties as Tottenham would increase the depth in their strike force with Valencia making a healthy amount of money for their transfer fund. Harry Kane would also find himself with a strike partner he can feed off instead of doing all the slave work on his own, as shown in previous weeks with Son sidelined.
Clinton N’Jie may find himself being sent out on loan to earn first team experience if Negredo makes a successful move this January. The Spanish striker would also be useful when it comes to big games as he has experienced them on a number of occasions with his former clubs Sevilla and Man City.
Tottenham are currently 11 games unbeaten in the League with one of the strongest defences. A number of players have developed and started to show their true colours with Eric Dier and Erik Lamela being stand out improvements in Pochettino’s side.
Spurs have one of the best squads in the Premier League, especially when it comes to their midfield but they still lack that killer striker to partner Kane up front which is why Spurs fans will not be surprised if they see a new number nine join in the January transfer window.
