Elche CF: A Guide in 60 Seconds

The team from Alicante recently spent 25 years away from Spain’s top tier until last season and after recent success over teams such as Málaga, Real Sociedad and Real Club Deportivo, The Green-striped ones will be remaining in the Spanish top division for a third season. Fran Escribá has turned Elche’s season around as they now find themselves placed in 13th with two games remaining. Although it is mathematically impossible Elche are only 9 points off 7th place Athletic Bilbao.

Jonathas Cristian de Jesus is currently on-loan from Italian side, Pescara and has been key in Elche’s success. In April 2015 the striker became the first player to score 10 goals for (Elche) Los Ilicitanos in a La Liga campaign since 1977/78. The Brazilian has represented his national U19 Side at the 2008 Sendai Cup where he scored 3 goals in 3 games.

Following a number of impressive performances for the Spanish side, Jonathas has been linked with Celtic saying that Champions League could lure him to Celtic Park. A price tag of £4 Million is on the Forwards head, but this could be reduced.

The Defender came through the ranks of Valencia youth and reserve sides before making his senior team debut in a 3-0 loss to Spanish Heavyweights, Barcelona. A knee injury put Lombán’s career on hold for six months. A loan spell to La Liga Adelante side, UD Salamanca allowed the Spanish U17 and U20 star return to full fitness but after making 21 appearances he was released by his parent club, Valencia, on a free transfer. Spells at Xerez CD and Barcelona B followed before a move in 2012 to La Liga new boys, Elche. During his career the defender has won the 2007/08 Copa del Rey with Valencia in a 3-1 win over Getafe.
