Pointon Yellows continued their winning streak in fine fashion after beating Ruskington Lions 4-0 at Governors Fields. The wheels came off for Ruskington after centre back Conor Allen saw red 15 minutes into the game. Pointon soon took the lead with a James Molyneux free kick from the edge of the box.
Ruskington fought back with a promising first half display but didn’t manage to bag an equaliser. After being spoken to by referee Darren Hunt, for a passionate dispute the Lions manager Neal Yarwood changed his sides tactics by starting the second half with a three at the back system. This wasn’t as successful as Yarwood hoped as Pointon managed to net a second after striker Ben Jackson broke through the Lions defence.
Rusko nearly managed to get a goal as Nathan Phillip’s acrobatic volley just hit the post. Phillips never gave up during the match as at one point he managed to get through four Pointon players. 10 men Rusko came under threat from a number of shots from a strong Pointon side, when finally Chris Bacon managed to curl a spectacular shot past Lions keeper Jack Vine. Substitute Olek Herbaut secured the win with a looping chip over the Lions keeper. This gives Pointon a strong lead in the title race being 1st with 2 games in hand.
